The holidays are a time for
reflection on the past year and for
planning the next. I hope the challenges you faced so
courageously this year become the foundation for optimism and
hope next year.
This year, I outlined the trilogy that will further explore my
first published book, Stepping
Stones: 10 Steps to Seizing
Passion and Purpose. Like Stepping Stones, each book
combines
poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. The poem below will kick off
the
trilogy and I am honored to be able to share it with you this
holiday season. I thought you could use a light, pick-me-up.
+~+~+~+~ THE QUEST by Dr. Tim
Sams +~+~+~+~
On a black and stormy voyage
His hair whips long and free
His eyes pierce the horizon
As he commands the stars and sea.
A thunderous battle rages
The waves crash all around
His body taut, the muscles strain
The ship slams into ground.
The hatch below bursts open
His woman springs up ready
Her eyes ablaze and senses sharp
Her sword is poised and steady.
The thunder booms and lightening bolts
The trees are tossed and blown
But no warrior's cry, an empty beach
The danger still unknown.
She sheathes her sword and soothes his face
and slides down to his pleasure
A desperate urge, then bodies merge
And spent achieve their treasure.
A mewling cry from deck below
Arouses dreamy lovers
As seed once sewn, seems long ago
Lies soft beneath the covers.
They descend to baby's cry
And father packs the best
As mother sweeps their future up
Who suckles life from breast.
The water rises surging up
A dying ship lies broken
But in that moment families clutch
And words need not be spoken.
He drags their past through surf
As mother rages with their child
The Gods no match for purpose,
Passion, fierce, and loving wild.
The weather calms, the stars will out
Ship fades beneath the foam
In the moon glow clear, village lights appear
And beckon calling home.

Life isn't simply a journey. We
are not simply travelers across
time. Life is a quest; for meaning; for purpose; to create and
leave a firelight burning through the ages. Through your work,
good deeds, your children, your spiritual love, and courage and
integrity, you illuminate the darkness. And your light burns
brighter with every person you have touched in some way or will.
Next year, be a little more playful, a little more loving. Take
a
little more time to give a candle to others. And they will know:
You live with purpose. You love with passion. You laugh often.
Happy Holidays!
Love,
Dr. Tim Sams
